MAT®
treatment, formerly called Metabolic Activation Therapy, can
stabilize, improve and often reverse the complications of severe
diabetes. MAT®
treatment produces a unique metabolic improvement that is not
seen with other IV insulin infusions or with the typical subcutaneous
insulin pump. MAT®
treatment as a major addition to the armamentarium of
Endocrinologists, especially for treatment
of those patients with diabetes whose complications progress despite
"good control" and "state of the art" therapy, or patients who have
difficulty maintaining intensive insulin therapy due to hypoglycemic
reactions.
Metabolic Industries is the sole commercial agent with the worldwide
licensing rights to MAT®
treatment (with the exception of Asia) and MI has unique
expertise in providing MAT®
training for physicians and staff.
The MAT®
treatment was developed in the
1970s by Dr. Thomas T. Aoki while he was a researcher at the Joslin
Research Laboratory, affiliated with Harvard Medical School. This
therapy has been described in peer-reviewed medical journals using
several different names: chronic intermittent intravenous insulin
therapy (CIIIT), metabolic activation therapy (MAT), pulsatile therapy,
pulse insulin therapy (PIT), pulsatile intravenous insulin therapy
(PIVIT) and hepatic activation.
MAT®
treatment is most effective used in a program tailored to
the individual patient by the treating Endocrinologist. With that in
mind, MI offers licenses for MAT®
clinics to Endocrinologists and similarly trained health
care professionals. MI also provides training in MAT® treatment,
ongoing assistance with MAT®
programs , monitoring, and assessments of patient
outcomes.
